Blog Tip: Prepare to Change

I think the most difficult thing about blogging is allowing yourself to change your style & purpose as your life changes.

When we first start blogging we {hopefully} know why we are blogging in the first place. We have a clear cut purpose and goal for our blog. But fast forward months, years, and our lives can change so much around us that our blog now seems a little obsolete. Especially when we already have a good thing going with our blog, it can be hard to admit that what we are writing about just isn’t cutting it anymore.

But if I have learned anything in the year-and-a-half that I have been blogging, is that just as you are growing and stretching yourself, your blog should be doing that as well. And your readers are also changing, hoping to see you grow along with them.

I look back at old posts and I can see a lot of quality there but I also can see how far I have come compared to my posts now. Not only do I appreciate seeing this change, but I know my readers appreciate it as well. It let’s people into my life more and allows me to be more genuine as I stay true to myself in every stage I am in, whatever that may be.

So if you are blogging for the first time, or have had a blog for a while, I highly suggest you take the time to evaluate your purpose and your values. Are you still being true to yourself? Are you holding on to something that is no longer there? Are you allowing yourself to grow and become a better person {and blogger}? I think this is something that would be important to do periodically and would make you a better blogger in the long run!

  1. Excellent tip! I have only been blogging for the past 6 months or so and have already had a break down with not being satisfied with my content and wanting to change directions. I was really afraid to do that, but in the end, when I re-evaluated myself, it really turned out for the better! I need to remember this for always. Thank you!

  2. I love this take on blogging. I have been blogging as a stay at home mom for a few years now and the one thing I am really up against now, is that I am tired of blogging just to be blogging. I really want to add value to my next upcoming ventures. Thanks for a great reminder!
