Fonts & Tips
Another way I love to spice things up (and see things spiced up) in the blogging world is through fonts. There are dozens of free font sites where you can download and install just about any kind of font you’re looking for. Some things to keep in mind:
- Look for the cost. Some fonts have a set price, while others require a donation amount that you can choose, and others are completely free to download.
- Some fonts are for personal use only. Be aware of what you’re using your fonts for and if they’re being commercialized by you (for example, if you’re earning money by using them on your blog or for marketing your blog, that could be considered commercial use). Be honest and either only use the fonts that are free for personal & commercial use, or pay for the ones that cost money.
- If your fonts are difficult to read, your followers will suffer. No matter how creative and cute or fun your fonts might be, if they’re too swirly, scribbly, or fancy and are difficult to read in any way, it will deter followers! That goes for title fonts, and more importantly, the font for your text body.
To wrap up, here are a few of my favorite handwritten-style fonts, which are free for commercial or personal use. Click on them to go to a site where you can download them and use them yourself!
Also note that all of these except Idolwild are currently available in Google Fonts.
(Each of these are available on a variety of websites. The link I’ve provided for each font is where I downloaded it from. You can definitely tell my font site preferences!)
