Refresh Your Blog with Color
If your blog feels old, worn out, and bland, but you don’t have the ability to change its design, a really easy fix is to give it a new or updated color scheme.
Keep the main colors in your logo or header image, and change the accent colors.
Here are some ideas I was tossing around with the BBN header image.
Notice how the dark teal exists in each concept while I changed or adjusted the other colors around it.
Don’t forget to try out lighter and darker shades of each color. That can add just enough dimension to your look that it might otherwise lack!
Change the amounts of each color that you see.
Play around with how much of each color you see on your blog. What color is the background? The columns? The gadget/widget titles? Try trading which colors you’ve used and where they are.
Change the colors to match the season or time of year.
Winter doesn’t mean drab or strictly Christmas colors. It can mean bright, cool, and refreshing colors too. Use your favorite colors that you see in each season!
Sometimes, it’s a matter of adjusting how much blue or yellow is in each color.
To the left are some of my latest favorite color schemes that relate to seasons–as I see them anyway.
If you’re stumped and don’t know what to do to get the colors on your blog from drab to fab, try doing an image search online, or take one of your own images and draw color ideas from it. My tip, don’t use more than 5 colors. Sometimes, 3 are all you need. Play around until you find something that you like. And change it up whenever you want to keep things fresh.
